We built MetricHammer because we were frustrated. Every engineering leader we talked to was flying blind — making decisions about team performance based on gut feelings and anecdotal evidence.
The Problem
Most developer analytics tools fall into one of two camps:
- Too simplistic: Lines of code, commit counts, and other vanity metrics that tell you nothing useful.
- Too invasive: Keystroke loggers and screen recorders that destroy trust and morale.
Neither approach works. Teams need insights that are actionable without being surveillance.
Our Approach
MetricHammer focuses on team-level signals that actually correlate with engineering effectiveness:
- Deployment frequency — How often are you shipping?
- Lead time for changes — From commit to production, how long does it take?
- Change failure rate — What percentage of deployments cause incidents?
- Mean time to recovery — When things break, how fast do you fix them?
These are the DORA metrics, and they’re backed by years of research showing they predict both team performance and organizational outcomes.
What’s Next
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about how MetricHammer helps teams improve these metrics — not just measure them. Stay tuned.
